Chicken Shawarma

The word shawarma is derived from the Turkish word çevirme, which means “it turns”. This is the recipe of the typical Middle Eastern kebab, similar in some respects to the Greek gyro. The tasty dish has been described as part of traditional Levantine cuisine, which is popular in a region encompassing areas in the Middle East and the Mediterranean.

Recipe

Region/ cuisine: Middle Eastern

Ingredients: - Ingredients for the recipe: 2 Chicken breast, 1 cup of yogurt, 1/3 cup of oil, 1/4 cup of lemon juice, Garlic paste 1 tbsp, red chili powder 1 tbsp, cumin 1/2 tbsp, coriander powder 1 tbsp, black pepper powder 1 tsp, tandoori/ kebab masala 1 tbsp, salt as per taste.

Process:-

1. Cut the chicken into thin slices as shown in the image below.

2. For marinade, in a bowl add yogurt, oil, lemon juice, garlic paste, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, black pepper powder, tandoori/kebab masala, salt and mix all the above ingredients.

3. Place the chicken slices in the marinade and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

4. Take a large potato and cut it in such a manner that we get a flat base. Cover it in an aluminum foil and place it in an ovenproof container. Fix a skewer in the potato and stack the marinated chicken slices on the skewer. Place the remaining potato on top of the skewer.

5. Place the shawarma in a pre-heated oven at a temperature of 200°C / 500°F which will take around 40 minutes for the chicken to cook.

6. To serve, slice the chicken and pile onto platter alongside flatbreads, salad, potato fries, and the tahini sauce.

7. To make a wrap, get a piece of flatbread and smear with tahini sauce. Top it with a bit of lettuce, potato fries, and Chicken Shawarma. Roll up and enjoy.
